Day 3, Blood Draws and Health Food Store

Today is my normal day off.  I love having Monday's off but they are always so hectic.  I try to make all my personal appointments for my day off so today I went to get my blood drawn for my upcoming doctors appointment next week.  I'm going to speak to him about my juice fast and get the results of my blood panel which I will post here.

Today is also Day 3 of no Soda.  I feel ok.  I've had a mild headache today but I also attribute that to the fasting blood draw.  I really haven't had anytime to eat today.  I've been on the go since before I had my blood drawn.

I also checked out the local Health Food store today.  I've only been in there once and it was only to buy some ascorbic acid for canning one year.  So I looked around and checked out what they had to offer and it looks like everything I will need is available and at a decent price.  I never thought of them as a grocery store but they have quite a few things.

Everything is in bulk so I will need to buy some airtight containers which I'm fine with.  I've slowly been modifying what I buy so I don't have very much crap in my cabinets and will have even less when I start the fast.  The husband isn't very happy with  my modification but ultimately he will get healthy too.  He'll never stop eating meats but if he can eat some healthier foods along with it I'll feel better about that.

More tomorrow as I make my plans for a healthier, more fit me.

Ciao for now.

Soda

Today is the 2nd day of NO Soda.  I'm a soda fiend.  I used to drink Mountain Dew.  About a case of it a day then I quit.  Cold turkey and lost 10 lbs in a week!  I didn't drink any soda for over 6 months.  Then I started adding in diet soda.  Telling myself it was Diet so not nearly as bad for me as regular soda is.  I ddin't drink nearly as much as I had drank in the past but enough that I could tell a difference.  I would drink 3 - 5 20 oz bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper everyday.  Then I would cut back and start drinking it all the time again. Well, as I noted in the previous post I have been trying to ween myself off of Soda completely along with other things.  The dairy has been a piece of cake.  I stopped that and haven't had any dairy since I watched Forks Over Knives .

But the Soda has been another story.  It's just soooo good.  I love the carbination.  But it's soooo bad for us.  Everything about it promotes decay.  Carbination causes problems with our teeth, the caffiene is a stimulant and makes us retain water, the artificial sweeteners are toxic to our systems.

Yesterday I was a little run down and really wanted to go out to the vending machine at work and grab a Diet Dr. Pepper.  Diet Dr. Pepper is usually not sold from machines like that in our area, I sweet talked our pepsi vender into putting the Diet in there and I sell it out every time.  So now I'm going to call them and ask them to take it back out.  I don't need any more temptation.  I stopped myself from going out there.  So no soda yesterday.  I've been drinking Crystal Light. I know, I know there is artificial sweeteners there too BUT no carbination.  Baby steps for me.  If I try too much at one time, I. Will, Fail.  That's why I've been working at this for a month.  I will be ready for my juice fast on 8/12/12 and I will hopefully, have minimum symptoms of detox by doing such but I've taken days off work just in case.

I'll let you know how Day 3 goes tomorrow.

Adios for now.

Today is just as good as any.

I've decided I'm going to blog about my journey.

A couple of months back I was flipping thru my Netflix account and a movie suggestion came up under Documentaries named "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead".  Since this pretty much explains me, I decided to click Play.  I watched this documentary in it's entirety and said 'Wow'.  It's a documentary about a guy named Joe Cross.  He's an Austrailian who was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and decided that he has to take over his own life again.  He decided to do a 60 day juice fast.  He juiced nothing but fruits and vegatables and lost a bunch of weight and a few health problems too!  If you haven't watched the show you can watch it on Netflix OR it is free to watch online at www.jointhereboot.com The only thing you have to do is sign up for their site which btw is FREE too!

After watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, I watched Forks Over Knives and Engine 2 Diet. Those three documentaries got me thinking about all the crap I eat. I love sweet and salty.  I love crunchy.  I love cake.  I love ice cream.  I love junk!

This is MY backstory:

As a child I was pretty chunky.  It runs in the family.  Through the 5th grade you can usually call it baby fat and get away with it.  Once I entered the 6th grade I really became self conscience about my appearance. I was a bit overweight, I wore glasses and my sense of style left a lot to be desired.  I was pretty miserable in Middle School.  My 8th grade year I was in a size 14!  I knew I was fat and my schoolmates did too...and they reminded me just in case I forgot.

Ahhhh...the end of the 8th grade and I'm out of school.  I got my normal job working in the corn fields just like I had every summer before that since I had turned 12.  It's just what midwestern kids do in the summer to get a little extra cash.  Something happened.  I started losing weight.  I would carry an igloo cooler with me everyday to work filled with food: chips, sandwiches, pudding cups, candy bars - you get the picture.  I would eat the entire thing EVERYDAY.  I lost a bunch of weight. I went from a size 14 down to a size 6.  I had lost so much weight that my mom was concerned and made a doctor's appointment.  She thought I may have an eating disorder even tho I assured her that was not the case.  But I can't begrudge her.  She's a good mom and as soon as she thought there was a problem she carted my butt off to the doctor's office even against my wishes.  The doctor confirmed to my mom that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me only that my metabolism had shifted.  Instead of burning calories like a slug, I burned calories like a road runner.

I entered the 9th grade (high school) with my svelte new body and I couldn't have been happier.  I could eat anything I wanted and I never gained weight. I went this way the entire length of High School.  I graduated High School and decided to take a few years off before I entered college.  One to save money because I knew I would have to pay for it all by myself and two to get psyched up for it.  I was a little burned out after High School and just wanted to get into the real world.

I got a boyfriend and a job at a factory.  I hated the job...loved the boyfriend.  I decided after 4 years of working at the factory, it was time to go back to school.  The boyfriend was behind me 100%.  I wasn't entirely happy with the way things were going with the boyfriend.  Some things were happening that I didn't like and I started to eat.  I gained weight.  The boyfriend dumped me because I wasn't 'as hot as' I used to be.

I continued to gain weight over the years.  One thing after another.  I turned to food to comfort me. I'm not going to bore you with all the gory details just know that I always found comfort in food when I felt down which was alot!

I have done every diet imaginable.  The salad diet, South Beach, Atkins, Cabbage, SlimFast, Weight Watchers.  You name it, I've tried it. Some I've had success with others not.  Even with weight loss I would go right back to eating the same exact way and I would put on every pound plus some.

My current weight is 280 lbs.  I'm 5'6" and 40 years old.  It's time to make a lifestyle change.

I have spent the last month weening myself off of dairy products, oils, sugar and soda.  I am taking a few days off work in August to do a 5 day juice fast.  5 days isn't very long but I need to have a goal that I KNOW I can achieve.  If I set myself up for too many days I will get overwhelmed and quit like I have everything else.  I will start my juice fast on 8/12/12.  I'm very excited and I wish I had a little more support at home but I will make this work.  No excuses.  I have to do this and I invite you to join me.  If you haven't seen Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, you really should watch it.

Until the beginning
